Assessment enables us to ascertain children's needs in order to provide developmentally appropriate experiences and to ensure that children are meeting their expected milestones. Children are assessed in a range of ways but none of these assessments are intrusive or disruptive to the child's ability to play freely and explore the world around them. In fact, our assessment processes are hardly noticed by the children as they are mostly reliant upon regular daily interaction and reflection by the child's key person. Please read on to find out about the various assessments we undertake.
Tapestry
Tapestry is an invaluable online tool for documenting child development through written observations that are accompanied by pictures and short videos. Parents are able to respond and this opens up another convenient channel for communication. Upon joining, you will be given instructions on how to log into Tapestry and view your child's observations. You will only be able to view your child's page. If you would like to discuss Tapestry further, please do not hesitate to approach us.
Formative Assessment
Formative assessment is ongoing assessment undertaken by practitioners to build a breadth and depth of knowledge of their key child's development over time. Practitioners are encouraged to reflect and keep track of their formative assessments through observations, pictures and short videos. Parents/carers have access to these and will be able to respond through Tapestry.
Two Year Old Progress Check
Between the ages of two and three, parents/carers are provided with a two year old progress check which gives an early indication as to whether the child is developing well. This assessment goes hand in hand with a health check and is a part of providing a bigger picture of the child's overall development. This is a statutory requirement.
Tracking
Group tracking provides useful data pertaining to child development with respect to age group, gender, ethnicity and so on. This enables us to implement effective environmental changes or experiences to fill any gaps in development.
Early Years Foundation Stage Progress Report
It's always sad to see children leave. We provide you with a detailed report to enable your child's school teacher to have a clear vision of their developmental progress. Many children will be meeting or working towards a good number of the EYFS early learning goals. Please note that the Early Learning Goals found within the EYFS should be met by the end of Reception at primary school - at which point you should be provided with your child's EYFS profile.
