SEND at Bumble Bees Day Nursery
We believe that all children should achieve their full potential and enjoy a happy and fulfilling early years experience at our nursery. Children identified with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND) are provided with opportunities that are meaningful, engaging and enjoyable. We give additional support to help with any barriers to learning and we work closely with families to ensure that we do all that we can to ensure that the child's voice is heard. Our setting's SENCO (SEND Coordinator), provides advice and support to our staff to ensure that additional support is effective. Parents are always informed of the kind of support provided and it is only implemented on their approval.
We encourage families to share any questions they have around SEND and we very much welcome parents and carers to approach and speak to us. We follow a process called the graduated approach which is outlined in the SEND Code of Practice. It is a step by step process which might begin with a discussion with parents/carers.
The Graduated Approach includes four main stages, Assess, Plan, Do, Review. It is important to emphasise that before we assess the child, we discuss with their parents/ carers so that we may work together and importantly, we want to know that we have their approval and that they are happy with how we aim to support their child.
Bumble Bees Day Nursery - SEND Champions!
Our setting has been recognised in local authority meetings as a Champion of SEND and we have shared our journey with settings across our borough at local authority led training. As part of this, Bumble Bees Day Nursery's manager, Dalia, has delivered talks to provide guidance to other settings through online seminars and workshops.
Please see the short video below by Marica, our SENCO.
In this short video, Marica provides a brief overview of our approach to SEND.
